Blockage-Aware Reliable mmWave Access via Coordinated Multi-Point Connectivity

The fundamental challenge of the millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency band is sensitivity radio channel to blockages, which gives rise unstable connectivity and impacts reliability a system. To this end, multi-point promising approach for ensuring desired rate requirements. A robust beamformer design proposed improve communication by exploiting spatial macro-diversity pessimistic estimate rates over potential link blockage combinations. Specifically, we provide blockage-aware algorithm weighted sum-rate maximization (WSRM) problem with parallel processing across distributed remote units (RRUs). Combinations non-convex coupled constraints are handled via successive convex approximation (SCA) framework, admits closed-form solution each SCA step, solving system Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) optimality conditions. Unlike conventional coordinated (CoMP) schemes, has, per-iteration, computational complexity in order RRU antennas instead system-wide joint transmit antennas. This leads practical computationally efficient implementation that scalable any arbitrary configuration. In presence random schemes shown significantly outperform baseline scenarios result reliable mmWave communication.
